Lyra Darius, an agent of the UK's MI5 domestic intelligence service, discover "charnel house" in London in the course of an investigation into the dealings of Lord Sumerisle,
the recently resigned Home Office Minister. Subsequently, Lyra is caught up in a conspiracy
involving the Knights Templar, a long thought extinct Christian military order, and the
buildup to the Battle of All Hollows.
