The Thing is a survival horror game that was unleashed on gamers at the end of 2001. Gamers who have long for another title in the vein of Resident Evil finally had their appetites satiated. After the mysterious deaths of an American scientific expedition in the uncharted and frozen wastelands of the Antarctic, a military rescue team is sent to investigate their deaths. Within these inhospitable surroundings the team encounters a strange shape-shifting alien life-form that assumes the appearance of people that it kills. You will be in charge of a team of military personnel and your mission is to find out the cause of their disappearance and evacuate any survivors.
With such a blurb, naturally the suspense is high and the expectations higher. The developers didn’t disappoint. The game is easy to learn and fun to play with. The player is required to kill all the monsters that are thrown at you and ensure that you do not get kill yourself. The difference from a normal first person shooter is the addition of team dynamics to the gameplay. This makes the game more interesting and exciting to play than a normal one person shooter. The user interface is separated into 3 categories (Single-player, Controls and Multiplayer). Shortcut keys are easily configurable according to your needs. If you encounter any problems, a ReadMe file is provided to help you with your trouble shooting problems.
The game is easy to install. Instructions are provided in a Readme file. As long as your computer has the minimum requirements, the installation will complete without a hitch. If your computer doesn't contain DirectX 8, the installer will install it for you.
People who have watched the movie and want to relive the joys of the movie will like the game. The game is mainly targeted at the male teenage population due to the amount of violence and blood. All the features that make the movie such a hit have been inculcated into the game. Profanities are peppered in the conversation between the various characters. People who abhor violence and profanities will be offended by the game. The game has a mature people label that prohibits people below the age of 15 from buying.
