I was a big fan of the original "Call of Juarez" in spite of the fact that it was quite a linear game. Well its sequel is even more linear, much faster-paced, more action-packed, and the stealth missions are gone. These may be good things for most game-players, but I for one miss the more laid-back gameplay of the original.

Some missions give you a choice as to which brother you want to play, which will affect your playing style and weapons. The mechanics of the weapons are similar the first game, however this time, if you want to use the lasso, you've got to twirl your mouse, which works just fine. There are automatic save-points, but the quick-save and quick-load and normal manual saves are present as well.

Yeah, it's not the same game game as the original. In some respects it's better, and in some ways worse. Visually it's awesome. As in the last game, you really feel like you're right there in the wild southwest (aside from the first two Civil War missions, which made me feel like I was playing another History Channel Civil War game). Voicework is once again excellent, and the guy who played Reverend Ray in the original game is back and doing another fine job. Music also excellent, fitting the mood perfectly. In fact, the overall atmosphere is so exactly perfect, it's almost uncanny.

There are secrets and loot to find in every mission, however if you "complete" your objective before you find it all, your brother will go wandering onward without you, and you will instantly die if he gets too far away. There is a bit of leeway, but in my mind, this was totally unnecessary and needlessly aggravating.

As an "experience", Bound In Blood is utterly captivating and very exciting.
But as a "game", I have to dock it a little because of it's relentless linearity, and "insta-fail" possibilities.

It's a very, very fun game, but it could have been legendary if they'd just done 3 things: Put the stealth missions back in (except without the insta-fail mechanic the last game used), make the player less tied to the brother, and allow some freedom for exploration. It's an absolutly gorgeous world they've created. I just wish they'd have allowed me to play it at my own pace.

CONCEPT: The creators of Operation Flashpoint and ArmA: Armed Assault now bring the ultimate military simulator. Set in a fictional former Soviet republic, but inspired by reality and based on real-world landscape, ArmA II utilizes a third generation game engine that has been in sustained development for over ten years, and is used by armies across the globe as the basis for their training simulators. BACKGROUND: An elite Marine unit has been deployed to a former Soviet republic, whose political fate balances on a razor's edge. With the might of teh USMC just offshore, and as the Russians anxiously watch from the north, the five men of Force Reconnaissance Team "Razor" are trapped in a war not only for control of the country...but also for the hearts and minds of its people.

The previous reviewer sounds like a bit of a disgruntled BIS fanboy, which is a shame. I avoided the original ArmA because it just didn't quite "feel" right in terms of controls, but this one is a keeper. Certainly not for everybody - it is extremely unforgiving (one shot kills); there are certainly performance issues, though I have resolved all of them through patient tweaking; the radio system still sounds robotic and generally awful; the AI still has some annoying advantages, such as being able to see through cover like grass, while you cannot; and so forth.

Despite these problems, I keep coming back to ArmA II. There really is nothing quite like it, well, anywhere. Playing a co-op mission with your friends is totally engrossing. The sound effects are generally excellent, the ability to move your head independently of your body is incredibly immersive, the graphics are very nice, the sheer scope of the game is tremendous.

As long as you know what you are getting into - a very hardcore and unforgiving milsim with some rough edges - I recommend this game. If you are used to, and want more of, the Call of Duty series, you should probably stick with that type of game.

Manage Your Minions
Effective control your Minions was a big part of Overlord, and in Overlord II all four varieties of Minions return smarter, deadlier (and funnier) and are ready to fight in large scale battles that will see their wild pack mentality squaring up to the organized legions of the Glorious Empire. As in the previous game, they'll do anything and everything their overlord commands of them, especially now that they can run ravage and wreck buildings and scenery and each have their own specialty in combat; Browns are the main general use soldier units, Reds with their fire-throwing ability are useful for long-range combat, Greens are experts at stealth maneuvers and Blues provide support and healing to other Minions. In addition, they've also learned a powerful new skill, how to ride. Three of the four kinds of Minions feature exclusive mounts: Browns on wolves, Greens on giant spiders that can climb walls and the Reds on salamanders. Story
Overlord II picks up right where the previous game left off. In it the original overlord is no more, and in his absence the order of things have changed dramatically. The comically evil, but still deadly gremlin-like army known as Minions are lost without a leader to focus their chaotic power for good, ill or both. Yet change finally appears to be in the air. Sensing that something is afoot, the Minion horde has made its way north to the town of Nordberg. Here they find a male child the likes of which has not been seen since the coming of the original overlord. This child is obviously special, but time is short and he has much to learn. In recent days a new power has arisen, known as the "Glorious Empire." Based in Roman-like legionary tactics, the power of this new enemy is being used to take over all the relinquished territories of the old overlord, and to extinguish all the magic in the land in order to weaken all potential enemies. As the new overlord it's your task to gain all the strength and skills you can, harness the power of the Minion horde and take back what is yours.
